Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #GoldenSun; any bird in warm, golden sunshine. Alt. is #FemmeFatale; any female bird. #ColorADay #PinkMon #RoseateSpoonbill #wadingBird #Birds #photography #ECK #outdoors #nature #thelittlethings #Florida #Lakes

A Roseate Spoonbill is standing in the shallows of the lake. The setting sun has turned the surface of the water golden.
Interesting information :
The Roseate Spoonbill is a large, pink wading bird with a distinctive, flat, spoon-shaped bill, native to the Americas, and is the only spoonbill species in North America. Its vibrant pink color comes from carotenoids in its diet of small aquatic animals, and it feeds by sweeping its bill side-to-side in shallow water to catch prey like fish, shrimp, and insects.
Found in coastal marshes and estuaries, it's often mistaken for a flamingo but is smaller and has a unique feeding method.

A mature Giant Sequoia can use 2000 liters of water every day during the summer. That's why snowy winters are fundamental: with adequate water they can live over 3,000 years [📹 Michael Block] Original post

What Bird?🦜@whatbirds.bsky.social · 21h ago

What bird is this? 🤔 (See alt text for clue and photo credit) 🌍 #whatbird | #birdsoftheworld | #birds 🦉🐧🦆🦩🦅🪿🦚

A small vibrant bird (13–14 cm / 5.1–5.5 in long) perched on a weathered branch, showcasing its bright red conical bill, striking violet cheeks, black chin, rich chestnut-brown body, and dark blue tail.

Clue: Found in the arid and semi-arid savannas of Southern Africa, look for a splash of brilliant violet on the cheeks, a bold red bill, and a rich chestnut coat.

Fun Fact: These birds regularly allopreen each other—meaning they gently groom each other's feathers (especially around the crown)—and can frequently be spotted huddled closely together in dense foliage.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)
