We use the law to protect life on Earth. Ecojustice is Canada’s largest environmental law charity. From coast to coast to coast, we have a proven history of winning key cases and securing environmental protections.
Yesterday the Supreme Court of Canada confirmed that governments cannot place themselves above the law. Congratulations to Democracy Watch for this important victory.

PM Mark Carney: Stop giving American coal a free ride
For ten years, Canada has promised to phase out thermal coal — one of the world’s most polluting fossil fuels.1 2 3 So why are we still exporting it? In reality, we have been quietly enabling its…

Because we give U.S. coal barons a free ride, we don't have port capacity for Canadian exports that could produce cleaner jobs that build a better future for all.
Instead, Canadian communities like White Rock and Delta bear the health, environmental, and safety costs in return for nothing: no tariffs, no taxes, and minimal jobs.
For everyone's sake, Canada needs to power past coal. 75% of the coal being exported out of Vancouver is U.S. produced, since U.S. west coast ports can't handle the volume. 🧵 #GreenSky

Under the Canadian Net Zero Emissions Accountability Act (CNZEAA), the federal government is legally required to do three things: 1. Set science-based climate targets 2. Have a credible plan to achieve them, and 3. Regularly report on its progress.
“The situation with Trump isn't easy. I'm doing a bachelor's in economics, so I hear a lot about this. I think it's unfortunate that the approach the PM is taking [...] because even more conservative agencies, such as the IEA, has projected that oil demand will peak in the coming years."
Not treating the climate crisis with urgency now will disrupt global stability through more deadly & costly extreme weather events, more inhospitable places & climate refugees, etc. Add this to the long list of environmental rollbacks by the Carney gov’t (compiled by @ecojusticecanada.bsky.social):

Canada will not hit carbon emission reduction targets set under the Trudeau government, Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a video posted to YouTube. He argued that downgrading the country’s climate-change ambitions is necessary for global stability and national unity.
@raincoast.org is asking a very important question: What Canada are you for? We’re for a Canada that follows its own environmental laws. A Canada where healthy oceans and Southern Resident Killer Whales are part of our shared future—not just our past. 💙
Recently, Canada’s federal government proposed sweeping changes to overhaul the laws that protect our lakes and streams, our wildlife, our oceans and the landscapes that are part of our Canadian identity. What Canada are you for? www.raincoast.org/2026/07/what...
“The disappearance of piping plovers is not inevitable - it is a choice” So grateful for the work of @ecojusticecanada.bsky.social and @ontarionature.bsky.social, alongside other orgs and communities, taking legal action at a time when environmental legislation and protections are being gutted.

THANK YOU!!! Climate change is the largest debt to be passed from one generation to the next in our history. Younger and future generations are poised to inherit the messes we’ve made, but failed to clean up. That’s not a legacy of which Canadians can be proud. Wishing you good luck!!
