Ministers pointed to the AI Security Institute when they rejected an AI kill switch. But it has no legal power to force anything. Sarah Teather pressed the government today to fix that, and to use its G20 presidency to push for a binding global agreement on AI risk.

What the Conservative's did today was outrageous and I am pleased that they were roundly defeated. This was third reading on the Financial Services & Markets Bill. We normally only tidy up at this stage. The Conservatives forced a vote to try and defeat government concessions which were agreed.

Conservative peers voted today to scrap a climate duty their own government wrote into law. The House of Lords outvoted them by 258 votes to 109.

Lawmakers in the US are already weighing their own AI kill switch law. Tim Clement-Jones, AI and digital spokesperson, wants the UK working alongside them so an emergency shutdown power can reach data centres wherever they are.

Parties that campaign on British sovereignty are taking large sums from donors abroad. William Wallace said the Representation of the People Bill will not close every loophole, but Lib Dems will push for changes to limit donations and campaign spending.
