Binance hasn’t REcovered $6B+, it’s COVERING it (reimbursing customers from company funds). Bad headlines like this are a big part of why I started covering crypto. Generalist reporters on deadline far too often end up repeating company spin.

Reuters headline: “Binance to resume withdrawals after recovering bulk of $6 billion in stolen funds”Tweet by Binance @binance Oct 30 Binance has begun [begun highlight] recovering [end highlight] affected assets for users and continues to work with law enforcement, issuers, blockchain intelligence firms and industry partners to trace, freeze and recover additional funds. The company has already publicly committed to cover losses through company funds in the prior announcement. [begin highlight] Binance has already reserved over $6.34B of company funds to cover this incident. [end highlight] $5B of these funds are already held in the exact token assets that were impacted. We are completing the purchase of the remaining amount by buying token assets through market channels and OTC channels. We are doing this to match the format of the remaining token assets and address any asset shortfalls. This step can take longer because some tokens may have low liquidity and OTC settlement also takes time. We will share more progress as soon as we can. These figures do not include frozen or protec

NEW: Facebook is hosting large numbers of AI videos depicting sexual abuse of young athletes by older coaches. We reported pages posting this material from a normal FB account -- and in response, were told by Meta that the content hadn't violated its standards. futurism.com/artificial-i...

Meta Is Refusing to Remove AI-Generated Videos of Coaches Inappropriately Touching Young Athletes When Users Report Them

Meta said AI videos on Facebook of coaches abusing young athletes didn't violate its standards. When we followed up, it changed its mind.

It's a day early, but we already have an infrastructure issue causing a polling site closure in Maricopa County. Good time to remind folks that there are >100K polling sites in the U.S. and sometimes those sites have issues. It's not a conspiracy, just a power outage. It'll be back online soon!

Screenshot of a post from the verified Maricopa County Elections account (@MaricopaVote), dated Nov 2, 2026, with 107.2K views. The post reads: “Due to power related issues, the Vote Centers located at Paradise Community College and Sunset Canyon School are temporarily closed. Please visit Locations.Maricopa.Vote to find a nearby voting location.” Below are two matching red graphics timestamped 8:50 AM, one in English titled “Vote Center Update” and one in Spanish titled “Actualización del Centro de Votación,” each repeating the closure notice and the link (the Spanish version links to Ubicaciones.Maricopa.Voto). Both carry “Vote Confidently” and Maricopa County Elections logos.

NEW 🧵 on AI and productivity: Lots of people say this chart shows AI is now showing up in the productivity data. But I made the chart to argue the opposite: a trend that pre-dates AI + only shows up in the US doesn’t look like AI. Here’s how I’m thinking about the data and underlying dynamics:

Hi! Woke up to lots of new followers. I'm not the Haley Stevens of Michigan. I'm the Hayley Stevens from Wiltshire, England. Until recently I wrote a science blog about spooky stuff, now I'm studying for my MSc in Forensic Psychology. I'm deeply autistic, sarcastic, and do not endorse Mike Rogers ✌️

We dressed the kitten up like a wizard for Halloween and honestly, it looked pretty believable so I whispered to him, “You know, if there’s anything you can do…” And then I left it open ended because I don’t know what his powers are but I remain hopeful.

for context, here’s how patrick healy (who conducted the q+a about why the times ran the alaska story) responded to my question about why they omitted new details of rape against the president in their story about the house judiciary dems’ report last week. spot the differences.

New — Editor Patrick Healy explains to me NYT’s omission of the new rape details shared by Beatrice Keul in their story about the new House Judiciary Dems report released this week:

"I wanted to see if you wanted to fill in the silence, but you don't," has to be one of the more devastating things a person who hosts the annual Times Square New Years Eve Ball Drop could say to you

4. Blanchard remained in touch with Stevens throughout the weekend and expected her to attend the church service. He only found out from the news that she was at the service with Rogers and endorsing him.

2. Blanchard said that Stevens’ fiancé, Jason Turkish, began chiding her at the dinner. “He was working her over. The way he was saying it was, ‘Everyone is disappointed in you, they did everything they could to help you and then immediately after you lose the primary, you endorsed him.’”

as a Sports Non-Understander who's never watched a game in their life i sometimes did the smug "haha sportsball amirite so boring 😏😏😏😏" when i was younger and more of an asshole. it's just a way to convey you're going to be an asshole about other people's interests you don't share

I hear Dem operatives going on about how kitchen table issues matter. They do. But why the huge and disproportionate surge in black and Latino turnout? Surely it has to do with assaults on civil rights and immigrants. Democracy may not matter much to Dem operatives; it matters to lots of Dem voters.
