The media helped construct this. They wanted a solution to MeToo and thought they could normalize the behaviors all the top brass were guilty of. It used to work for them when TV was the main form of connection between everyone, now the internet is and the lies are more apparent than ever.

The “mainstream media” bought into the right-wing claims about them being biased and representative of elite coastal views and clumsily try to compensate, even if/when it goes against reality.
Theory: It's just that they are all still on Twitter, and they credulously mistook Musk's manipulation of the algorithm as the manifestation of a genuine cultural change. Maybe it's not any more complicated than that.
Let's be real, the MSM and most of our institutional leadership turned out to be EAGER to join in on the Trumpification of everything, and they should be remembered for that, the whole thing really is encapsulated in that stupid asshole's quote

The idea the entire culture shifted because of a 1.5% popular vote margin was always very strange (and powered by a lot of wishful thinking from people who were tired of pretending they cared about what non-white dudes were saying)

I think they couldn't wait to get into some bad old white backlash. Sure, police killings and sexual violence are bad, but to them the biggest crime of all is to inconvenience old rich white guys.
I would prefer that they go back to restraining themselves, yes.
Racism, sure, and definitely sexism, too. But overwhelmingly just callousness-as-Truth. The number of people I know who apparently spent my entire adult life restraining themselves from using the r-slur is pretty dispiriting.
The attitude of the vibe shift era was simply "From now on there will always be at least a thin veneer of racism to everything, and you won't say a word to question it. On the contrary, you will find it liberating." I found it nauseating.
