We will assess how to fill gaps, grow capacity despite biases, ensure sustainable flows of data (respecting FAIR and CARE principles), support monitoring science + methods, show the vital role of traditional knowledge, and ensure indicators used for decisions and report progress are supported.

We have 4 chapters and 60,000 words to tell this story. Gathering the evidence and sources of data + knowledge will be a big task, supported by IPBES task force on data and knowledge. A particular focus is on the knowledge of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.

This fast-track assessment is due at the end of 2026. We have a broad mandate with the dual task of assessing monitoring science and the capacity to support the monitoring framework of the UN CBD Global Biodiversity Framework - do we have the capacity? how do we fill gaps and engage all of society?
