There's also a level of classism to the question. "Why didn't they just leave?" As though it's easy to just walk out on your home/belongings & start over. Like victims all have an escape fund & a cozy little pied a terre they can sojourn to.
Kat Tenbarge@kattenbarge.bsky.social · 3mo agoThere are still tons of people who ask why victims stay in abusive relationships and use that line of thinking to attack and undermine the credibility of victims. The actual mechanism of coercive control is still so misunderstood by the public—a victim staying actually makes perfect sense.
