@rweingarten.bsky.social, this is a horror. Teachers cited in this article say they're using "A.i." to develop lesson plans for kids with disabilities and imply that they're feeding student data into LLMs. This is using untested, dangerous teach on vulnerable kids AND possibly violating privacy law.
“Teaching educators about AI is a ‘moral imperative’, said Randi Weingarten, the AFT president.” “And without outside funding, it was a choice between taking big tech’s money or doing nothing, she said.”
The whole manosphere thing is so deeply weird to me. Some dude fitness "influencer" was telling men to only work out in the morning because it makes you more "predatory" after ward. Can't imagine why there's a "male loneliness epidemic" with that messed up af attitude.
Everybody deserves free healthcare, even the person i hate the most
I admire people who can exercise in the AM and be super energized. I am not one of them. I've had a swim with the kiddo and morning yoga and in spite of coffee I am ready for a nap.
Part of what drives me nuts about the obnoxious "AI" stuff is that stealing art to regurgitate back up as slop is so useless and stupid. There are am million ways tech could be focused on improving lives and this addresses literally none of them for anyone, it actively makes things worse.
Are you a person with a body? Take a second to stretch. Then stretch some more. Have some water.
What are some of your least favorite, low stakes, icks? For me: 1. Walking through a cobweb when sweaty. CANNOT STAND GET IT OFF ME WHY DOES IT NEVER FEEL GONE. 2. Celery. No. 3. Shoes without toe protection (only on myself, do you!)
Like, super easily because I don't use any of those things. In my day to day I mostly use Google Docs for basic spreadsheets for schedules, scripts and email. I don't need anything else. What on earth are these folks DOING in a day?
I have one answer.
How beautiful are these handmade creatures by kinetic artist and paper sculptor Lucy Jean Green! #beautifulbizarre #papersculpture #art

Only people in LA will understand how funny this. Like, one of my upstairs neighbors sells upcycled furnitures, does deliveries, and also is a mermaid tank performer for parties.
Even the buildings in LA have 3 jobs
hey so the price of food is literally not sustainable. i plan every grocery purchase and week after week i buy LESS and pay the same if not more. wtf are we supposed to do 😭
1. "I don't wipe my butt" is an extremely weird thing to build a personality around 2. There is absolutely no way in any hell on any earth he's poopin' normal with that diet.
Oh my god the dietician who is telling everyone in the White House to only eat steak and sauerkraut doesn't wipe his ass.
Things I would tell my younger self about getting older; the earlier you start a good weight training routine and OMG STRETCH CONSTANTLY/more yoga the less annoying your inevitable old lady sciatica will be.
The other day the algorithm fed me 1 part of a 5 part series of some woman targeting a romantasy writer with “why I think her book series is AI generated” and it was just…vibes. With a caveat that said “just my opinion” Trying to ruin someone’s career over vibes AI has created collective paranoia
The way that everyone sees fantom AI in original work now is such a fucked up secondary downstream AI nightmare consequence. People can’t critically identify real art any longer and so everything gets accused of not being original. I don’t know how we climb out of this hole.
Cher knew what was up in Mermaids.

Guys will listen to male influencer bullshit about needing to have a six pack and manipulate everyone and meanwhile women will go “you know who is the sexiest fucking guy I’ve ever seen?” and post this
I can actually hear my history teacher father's ashes screaming right now.
"History involves sorting and organizing hundreds of thousands of facts" I remain astounded by how loud and wrong people are about what history actually is.
The thing about LA is that you can go out for a morning walk with your kiddo and then treat her to something at a coffee shop and then Gary "TPS Reports" Cole is telling you she's really cute while she takes pics of your matcha.
Ugh. I think this is the 2nd or 3rd piece featuring this particular researcher. Ironically, given how people define rigid thinking in Autism, is her extremely rigid & outdated definition of Autism. Yes, we have moved to a more inclusive & nuanced view of neurodivergence. That is GOOD.
Sigh.... "Anyone can have autism now, says research pioneer — The Telegraph Academic warns that 'almost magnetic attraction' to having condition means term is being misused......" apple.news/AkJaGnn2lRSG...
There is a difference between a disabled person standing up and saying “I want to show you the adaptations I have made and encourage others to try to find what works for them” and nondisabled people putting a “good disabled person” (one who asks for nothing and teaches them lessons) on a pedestal.
One of the reasons I know data bot an algorithm stuff is so flawed is that FB thinks that I am an over 65 black woman.
Dear personal data bots: I am a dedicated vegan who eats meat. I voted for Trump, and I voted for Hillary, which I can do as I am an Australian. I am married to a man, and am a single lesbian with a girlfriend. Because I am not Australian I live in Kentucky, where I am English. I own 680 cars.
I published my fifth book Anne of Soylent Green Gables posthumously. It was optioned to be made into a film by Quentin Tarantino but he forgot. I have been to the moon twice on various challenger missions. I invented carrots and have since apologised. I died in 1986 aged 7.
If you want another reason to hate Newsom: since we're dealing with a layoff we've obviously had to look into various financial supports. We used SNAP years ago during another lay off and it was pretty straight forward. Now, there is a long, complicated process, major restrictions & more.
This is actually why I love a lot of historical romance writers. Many of them do exactly this, pick a specific area and get VERY knowledgeable on it. Kleypas knows Victorian farming methods like her back of her hand. Eloisa James can tell you about 17th cent. lace making etc.
I’m gonna say virtually all authors need to get serious about textiles. Who is weaving them? Out of what? Who’s turning them into clothes and how much does it cost and do you have any idea how HARD all of that was before modern mills
1. This writer lives in TX & all of her pieces are rage bait con. garbage 2. Seems to be a big fan of unregulated capitalism running amok with no idea why that's 3. Taxes often go to things we may not personally use 4. I'd rather my taxes went to food than, say, war.
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
Comics and prose writer here and good lord, this. They use the word "gatekeep" like they use the word "democratize" about "AI"... incorrectly and in complete bad faith. Writers never shut up about writing.
Seeing complaints online that authors 'gatekeep' information…! Absolute nonsense. There is no industry or craft in the world which is so comprehensively written about, studied, and discussed as fiction writing, and every author I know welcomes new writers who are serious about giving it a go.
This sounds like how to stage a coup not sell a book.
Guys I just got this marketing email and I'm scared.
