When Rintarou learns that his mom is trying to set him up with her clients' daughters, he asks Atsumu to pretend to be his boyfriend for his birthday family dinner.

"About tomorrow," Rintarou starts again, effectively bringing Atsumu's attention back to him instead of his broth that, Rintarou has to admit, looks really tasty.

What happens next, Rintarou doesn't know how to explain it.

He was sure his plan was to explain his situation to Atsumu and ask him if he perhaps had a solution to his problem. But instead, Rintarou thinks back to that small voice at the back of his head and he thinks that maybe, just maybe, he could be selfish and listen to it for once. So, instead, what comes out of his mouth is this:

"Would you come with me to my family birthday dinner tomorrow as my boyfriend?"

Atsumu chokes on his broth.

when he was a kid, suna wanted to be on tv.

he watched a lot of it, thanks to absent parents, everything from reality sitcoms, detective dramas, medical documentaries, cooking shows. he watched celebrities face their darkest fears, ordinary citizens fall in love, actors cry about their dead families, late night hosts crack jokes and make commentary that went over his adolescent head. after his sister was born, he was forced to sit through kids’ shows, educational programs, and shojo anime, but regardless of what was on screen, he retained a singular wish: to be on tv.
