This week, we have been hosting Idaliya Fedotova, a doctoral researcher from the University of Eastern Finland, who came to our institute for a research visit and consultations on Khanty. We are always happy to have guests, so please reach out if you would like to visit us!

Our second workshop, which focused on sociolinguistically informed linguistic fieldwork, was organized by Maria Khachaturyan and Maria Konoshenko. We studied linguistic repertoires of the winter school participants and even managed to discover some contact influence in verbal valency!

The two invited lectures of the winter school were given by Timofey Arkhangelskiy, who created a tiny but real corpus for us during his lecture, and Viktória Tóth, who introduced us to bibliotherapy and made us reflect on why we read and how we write.

This afternoon, we have a literary translation workshop with Maximilian Murmann, our alumnus who translates Finnish and Estonian books into German. Currently discussing how to translate obscene place names!

The winter school has started with Zsófia Schön's Surgut Khanty course and a game of hangman based on Khanty phonetics!
