Ukraine's European backers must decide, collectively & quickly, what they are willing & able to do with no US backing, in Ukraine & for themselves. Relatedly, they should ask who, in & outside the region, they can work with. With luck, US engagement will continue. But trusting luck isn't a strategy.

In this article, I point out that Trump’s victory has prompted European policymakers to explore more cooperation with Turkey. Neither Turkey nor EU can ignore the Cyprus issue, which is "not merely a bicommunal dispute but a geopolitical one, besides being at the core of Turkey-EU challenges.”
