Maine friends, re: closing another rural L&D unit, listen to this episode of TAL about what happened within a month of Houlton’s unit closing. I have been the MD “riding the bed” and being scrubbed in for an emergency c-section for cord prolapse. It’s terrifying. L&D closures will cost lives.

I join union nurses in calling for Debora Kapisha's immediate release from ICE detention. To those who can make it, I encourage you to join Maine union nurses for an emergency demonstration today at 10:30 AM outside Maine Medical Center in Portland.

I’ve learned through my union brothers and sisters at the Maine State Nurses Association that one of their colleagues, Debora Kapisha, has been detained by ICE. ICE plans to transfer her to Louisiana, where she’ll be even farther from her family, legal counsel, and support systems. Debora is a medical-surgical nurse at Maine Medical Center. Her colleagues describe her as an amazing nurse and a kind, supportive coworker. On top of it all, she is legally authorized to live and work in this country. She should be at work today assisting Maine patients and their families. Instead, she’s being held captive by the Trump administration. This is what happens when a rogue agency is granted free license to carry out a racist, authoritarian agenda without restraint. We must abolish ICE, not give them tens of billions of taxpayer dollars to bring terror to our streets. I join the Maine State Nurses Association in demanding Debora’s immediate release from ICE detention, and I call on Maine Medical Center to take immediate steps to formally sponsor her for permanent residency. I cannot imagine what Debora is going through right now, but I’m inspired by the swift action of her union. Couldn’t agree more. This is the strategy of the drumpf administration. Smoke and mirrors - blame Biden, blame Obama, blame Fauci. Say it louder so the base believes it. Repeat it so it must be true. Don’t fall for it. In 2008 Fauci was my med school commencement speaker. He was revered.

Updated 1:33 pm · July 14, 2026 Dana Richie Staff Writer Tensions rise at Scarborough protest at ICE facility A lone counter-protester wearing a cowboy hat with an American flag and armed with a gun and knife on his hips, showed up at the protest with a megaphone, blaring a siren sound. He walked through the crowd and tried to get behind the speaker, who was talking through a microphone. The counter-protester, identified as Tim Bodnar, a resident of Newport, has a wide following on social media, where he is known online as “Truth Slinger.” As Bodnar tried to move into the crowd, protesters wearing orange vests and acting as safety marshals tried to escort him away. In response, Bodnar said, “I have a right to be here” and refused to leave. The crowd started singing “We Shall Overcome,” and Bodnar began walking in the crowd, getting in people’s faces and shoving them. Organizers instructed protesters to walk up and down the street around the facility in an effort to ease the density of the crowd. One of the lead organizers polled the crowd on whether they wanted to remain or leave, and most of the attendees said they wanted to stay. Bodnar mocked the crowd, at one point shouting a slur, and as Democratic Senate candidate Troy Jackson took the microphone to address the crowd, Bodnar shouted at him, calling him a “fascist socialist pig” and said he was not a real Mainer. The crowd remained for another 10 to 15 minutes, and then began to leave.
