In my latest YouTube video I went over how to make fantasy races weirder (cooler) through speculative evolution. Taking classic traits and seeing them through a biological lens instantly adds fun and flavor to even the tropiest of tropes!
The roving packs of those great Gryphons, bringing low the wyrms of their isle! How their wine-red hides contrast the yellowed skies as they beat scale with guile!
Home of the Sicklemouth, the Scarduns are a wild isle in the northern hemisphere. Layered in cold bogs, dry grasses, diverse coasts and dramatic cliffs, this habitat shares a sheltered gulf on its West side, and on the East drops into an abyssal chasm which hides sea beasts of tremendous variety.
Weary and grimy, sore from a fight lasting deep into the night, a Sicklemouth lands a blow to his rival’s leg, ending this season’s fight for dominance. Some among its kind may loathe this cheap way to end the fight, but alone on the black cliffs, who will know but the heavens?

Only males have the sword, & must be fed by the females he protects.

Boasting one of the most complex wing structures of the Saevosaurine Dragons, the Kinsbane’s umbrella-like anatomy protects against tears by both enemy talon, and gravity’s strain. Like a galleon’s sail, these ruts and rods come together to push the animal airborne.
Commission of a Pern Dragon. What may look at first like the mythical beast soon reveals itself to be much more alien in its construction. No surprise as the Thread-fighting animals were created from alien wildlife stock, sized up for power.
Commission of a really cool red dragon based on the one from “delicious in dungeon”. This bad boy will be the boss of the client’s campaign!
#smaugust Day 2- Alpine. Far off on some wayward island the natural order is reversed: miniature dragons terrorized by some oversized, flying mammal. Some call it a Gryphon, some call it other things. Regardless, it prefers to coast mountain updrafts in search of scaly prey.
The Bannerthane spits flaming, boiling acid at dragonhide to break through the iron scales and access the meat within. Imagine what it can do to the poor, traveling merchant!
@sawyerleeart.bsky.social worked on alternate dragon head options for the Eastern, Quetz, and Behe. Which one is your favorite?
Before the last apocalypse, there was Prosaevosaurus priala: the First Dragon. Known from dozens of fossils found while building underground cities, it represents the humble origin of the Flying Dragons.
Really my favorite plot point of Star Wars. Who could have expected it! Happy Revenge of the Fifth
Creature Commission of a cool octo-elephant-gorilla which was a fun design to figure out. Thanks!
“And from the hour his colossal foot crushed the soil of the National Mall, Washington was made unfit for the habitation of men for a thousand years.“
It’s that time of year again! Now to start another, filled with all the same and more.
Happy Easter from this very cuddly and friendly “bunny”
Knowledge is half the battle. These are the closing hours of the campaign- a book sure to ‘fire’ the imagination!

One of the stranger looking mammals, this semi-aquatic beast submerges its body in rivers and uses its long neck to reach the trees which hang low over them. It may be found only in the deepest, quietest depths of the Sorrowood swamps.
