there’s posts like all over tumblr as well that have crossed my feed. “Protecting the kids” is such BS. Children will lose their communities and ability to be expressive in a world that pushes them out of every single space they try to inhabit.

Not that lawmakers actually give a singular shit about kids or anything, but I've encountered several posts from young people in despair over these age verification bills on r/suicidewatch. But protect the kids, right? www.reddit.com/r/SuicideWat...

Many, many thoughts on this, starting with the idea that it is not surprising people feel that the government is much more likely to interfere or punish them for their speech because at this moment that's just objectively true.

A new survey from @knightfoundation.org and @ssrsresearch.bsky.social reveals a disquieting decline in how free Americans feel to use the freedoms protected by the #FirstAmendment without government interference or punishment. 🧵

this isn't very popular to say, but for me personally, it was good that i had unrestricted internet access when i was a minor. i was aware of what i was doing and enjoyed it. i don't look back on it and go "well that was a mistake", i look back on it and wish i could do it for the first time again

If SCREEN were to pass, you'd be required to scan your face and upload an ID to access this site because it allows "harmful" material. This affects you even if you don't care about sex work or porn.

“Unlike KOSA and many of the other age verification laws that have spread across the country, the SCREEN Act does not have bipartisan support. It’s the latest in Lee’s repeated attempts to criminalize content he and his co-sponsors personally consider immoral.”

The SCREEN Act is a Christian Nationalist Nightmare

Mike Lee's SCREEN Act, which heads to Senate Commerce Committee for markup on Wednesday, would expand age verification requirements to a nearly limitless scope of websites, and is supported by the arc...

Louisiana's Gov says she will retaliate against Pornhub after the site showed the state's famous AV law isn't working. Pornhub has been complying with Louisiana's age-verification law since 2023. But 8 in 10 sites on Google are not. These people can not accept this is the wrong solution.

Murrill: No retreat on age verification for Pornhub

(The Center Square) – Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill is rejecting Pornhub’s call to reconsider the state’s age-verification law, saying her office intends to increase scrutiny of the company i...

I cannot believe there are right-wing grifters calling Nolan’s The Odyssey anti-western and anti Greco-Roman. If anything, I think it was an incredible reminder as to why The Odyssey is the most foundational piece of western literature.
