Over my 20 years of being a fairweather music journo and record store guy, I had pleasant run-ins with both these mugs. There's a part in this article where Ian is talking about how great it was to do a project with his best friend that made me tear up. Hard not to envy a friendship like that.

Good morning! For the @nytimes.com, I interviewed these two, plus Kid Congo Powers and more, for a story on the Cramps. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/04/a...

Ian MacKaye and Henry Rollins

People who only know Michigan from afar hear me hating on the politics there, and they say "oh c'mon, Whitmer is alright, though, right?". Nooooope. Aside from a couple (admittedly important) social justice issues, her, Nessel, etc are definitely part of the problem. Let's goooo tomorrow, Michigan!

Tomorrow, Michigan Democrats decide whether to elect Medicare for All champion Abdul El-Sayed. Gretchen Whitmer is backing his opponent after Blue Cross donors poured record sums into her campaigns. Her father was the company’s longtime CEO.

I've never had an AI chatbot (which I only use when forced in customer service interactions) offer a useful answer, only falsehoods and feedback loops. It's the most 'Brazil'-ass technology to yet exist, portends of worse to come, and anyone talking in neo-luddite terms now is on the right track.

Terrible news about the passing of the great Louise Lasser. A completely one of a kind talent, and a tragic loss. I was already prepping to start a free Mary Hartman screening series at Dream House Bar next Monday, but it now obviously doubles as a loving tribute to the memory of Louise Lasser.

I quietly become unduly vexed whenever someone describes my graphic design as "retro" or "throwback", even when they mean it as a compliment. Buddy, there's good design and bad design, it ain't my fault you spend your sad days looking at the bad stuff and thinking it's the baseline

Just found out that my first piece for Esquire, a eulogy for Lou Reed which embraced Lou's most cringe recordings, has been scrubbed from the web. Also can't find it in my Google Drive, though I did find the copy I emailed to the editor in 2013. Should probably bootleg print this old stuff.

I was spoiled by my previous car (which now belongs to my beautiful spouse), which has had zero real problems in 4 years, minus my getting into an accident. The van I got to move two weeks has been thousands of dollars and constant hassle from the jump, and I deeply regret buying it. Fuck cars.

Portland, OR friends: I will be out there for good(ish) starting on Memorial Day, and am looking for a summer sublet! ~May 25-August 30, give or take. Please DM if you have any leads! Looking at more permanent spots, too, but planning to be gone throughout September so it's not my preference.
