Evolutionary / population geneticist at IBE-UPF (Barcelona, Spain). Interested in introgression, demographic history, selection. Average climber, avid traveller, awesome croqueta cook, mediocre karaoke pal. All views are my own. He/him.

I discovered something interesting while on vacation in Toledo, Spain. Book title: "Hispanic Jewish surnames" (or Sephardic, for context). Some time ago, I stumbled upon some 'Ashkenazi' ancestry at my 23&Me results. I wondered how represented Sephardics are in that sample.

We are very excited to share our latest. We thought that soft sweeps would be the only type of sweep spreading across human gut microbiomes. Turns out many are hard! Reach @peterlaurin.bsky.social 's thread on why! And tomorrow at #SMBE2026 I will share this work and more!

Super excited to share new work with my advisor @nanditagarud.bsky.social! We re-examine the rapidity of adaptation in the human gut microbiome and begin to characterize the adaptive architecture of selective sweeps spreading across human guts. www.biorxiv.org/content/10... 1/n:

I am excited and proud to introduce to you PSMC-FAC (FNR-Automatized Correction) — a mathematical method designed to optimize the calculation of False Negative Rates in low-coverage curves. Let me break it down briefly:

Thrilled to announce 2 major changes in my academic career: 1. I got a postdoc grant (Beatriu de Pinos) to fund 3 years of research! Focused on African ancestry in Europeans, but still collaborating with conservation genetics. 2.A JAE-Intro CSIC grant to fund a MSc student for 6 months! More soon!

Let's talk about an (ongoing) research on European wolves. How will climate change affect them? How can we reduce the human impact on them? The best way to see this is looking at their (demographic) history. Come by P02.083 today between 17.00-19.00 to talk! #ESEB2025
