🚨 Is #palaeontology facing an ‘extinction of experience’ in relation to fieldwork? ⬇️ @whosyourmammal.bsky.social's survey shows it's not just funding issues turning ECRs away - better access to training + a significant cultural shift are needed if we want high levels of engagement with fieldwork 🦖⛏️

#Yourpalaeolife The ECR survey is published @ecol-evol.bsky.social! Early career palaeontologists from all over the world have talked about their experience with fieldwork - how could you change your working practices to get more early career researchers into the field? doi.org/10.1002/ece3...

⚠️Please repost!⚠️ Over 99% of species that ever lived are extinct. Without palaeontology, the new Natural History GCSE will only cover a snapshot of life's history. We're making the case for fossils in the new GCSE 🦴🐚🌿 teach.ocr.org.uk/palaeontolog... The consultation is open now! Have your say👇

This week I've been equal parts scared and angry. Juan Jairo Coronilla was a Mexican tourist with a tourist visa, like I have been for many conferences and research trips. ICE has killed 18 Mexican nationals. As a dinosaur palaeontologist, this is a setback for my career.

🇺🇸🇲🇽| Claudia Sheinbaum announced that formal complaints will be filed today regarding the 17 Mexicans who have died during operations or while in ICE custody. "I call upon political parties, all of them, to stand in solidarity with our fellow citizens."

Under a Binface government, anyone who doesn’t accept human-made climate change as fact will be sent back to school, from Year 1 right the way to A Levels, to see if anything goes in the second time round. #VoteBinface

Since this outrageous heat started, I kept hearing animals trying to get into my roof. Turns out the local magpies have learnt that they can get water from my boiler overflow pipe. Clever little dinosaurs 🦖

When we want to know what the rocks are under our towns, we use a special drill that can collect long cylinders of rock hundreds of feet below the surface. This core, collected under Reading, punched through a fossil layer, scooping up ancient shells and even a beautiful sea urchin! #fossilfriday
