I was looking at my old art today... And its honestly devastating how much going to school for animation and working in the animation industry affected me. I used to draw so much, every single day. I'm trying to get my spark back, but burnout recovery has been hard.

I took a big break from social media and I feel like it did me well, but I also feel more isolated than ever. I want to start chatting with people again, but I can't keep up with the lightning fast trends of busier socials anymore.

I've been really struggling with social media lately... I am struggling with finding a place I'm excited to post to, that doesn't feel like I'm screaming into the void, but also doesn't feel like I'm surrounded by ragebaiting/hateposting. Do we... Have anything like that anymore LMAO

so like... what are we all doing with the 400 projects rattling around in our brains animation is expensive, comics are very time consuming, novel writing isn't my strong suit... can we invent a holodeck simulation or something where I can show people my blorbos already

I've been working very hard on untangling my worth from my productivity. That includes work, side hustles, but also includes the pressure I've been feeling to keep up with indie animation peers. Let me tell you though... That shit is VERY hard. It takes a lot of untangling and unlearning

This is why Andromeda Squad didn't cost a dime and I shelved the project I invested $4k into before I got caught up in sunk cost fallacy. This is also why I don't work in indie animation (or studio animation for that matter) anymore, and why I'm working on growing my small business instead.

Here's a harsh truth, folks. Unless you're extremely lucky, there's really no money to be made working in indie animation. I've written for some of the biggest shows out there, including TADC, Lackadaisy & Hazbin Hotel's pilot, yet I still struggle to live paycheck to paycheck.

I thought that the "man falls in love with a woman, who is violently revealed to be a man in a dress, maliciously tricking him, and upon that reveal the man says he's going to kill them" trope was left in the past. But here we are, Smiling Friends proving me wrong. Boo. So fucking lame.
