In order to facilitate participation by specialists in disparate time zones, the open forum will comprise two sessions: one on August 3/4, 2026 and a second on August 5/6, 2026. https://japanpastandpresent.org/en/news/announcement-open-forums-on-japanese-library-resources In recent years, information science specialists—those trained as Japan Studies professionals, as well as those who support faculty and students in the field—have struggled with resource availability, shifting institutional commitments and expectations, training opportunities, and more. In March 2026, the JPP Library Services Team put out a survey focused on needs and challenges pertaining to Japanese Studies resources; the two open forums will begin with a report and discussion of the results of that survey, followed by a listening session intended to give the Library Services Team a better understanding of the needs and challenges of librarians and library staff around the world.  The two sessions of this open forum will serve as a valuable opportunity to share information about the shared challenges of information specialists in Japan Studies, or Area Studies more broadly. At the same time, they will also inform the planning of an in-person academic symposium and workshop, to be held at UCLA in early 2027, in support of Japan-related librarianship in its many forms. As part of its mission to provide equitable access to scholarly tools and materials, and to help realize an increasingly diverse and inclusive future for the Japanese humanities, JPP is keen to learn more about the needs of Japanese Studies librarians, information specialists, and library staff who engage with Japanes…

The text reads: JPPの「プロジェクト助成金」は、JPPのウェブサイトで公開することを目的とした、幅広い日本の人文科学研究についてのリソース開発を短期的に支援するためのものです。リソースとは研究・教育ガイド、データベース、動画シリーズ、エッセイ、授業計画・シラバス、注釈付き翻訳、デジタルリソース、その他革新的なプロジェクトなどが考えられます。 助成金は最大1万ドルで、3～5人のグループによる研究、執筆、コンテンツ開発の費用、その他JPPと合意した費用に充当することができます。助成対象となる期間は4か月間です。4か月の助成期間中、チームメンバーは週に約3～4時間をプロジェクトの活動に充てることが求められます。JPP内部では、プロジェクトの報酬を時給30ドルと設定した一例がありますが、各大学の規定、また世界の賃金レートや為替レートなどを考慮して調整が可能です。大規模なプロジェクトの場合、進捗状況に応じて、さらに4か月の延長を申請することができます。なお、プロジェクトに5人以上のメンバーが望まれる場合は、JPPの「プロジェクト助成金」の規模を超えるということで、別途、外部からの資金援助を得る必要があるので、その資金に関する証明書を提出しなればなりません。また、プロジェクトの採択件数は、募集サイクルごとに変動する可能性があります。
