We study how vertical (level-focused) & horizontal (field-centred) occupation-education mismatch show distinct patterns and relate to distinct mechanisms among immigrants and descendants: international credential recognition for the former and initial sorting into fields of study for the latter

We compare the vertical mismatch of G1, G2, and G3 to that of natives for men in panel a and women in panel b. Indicated by coefficients to the right of the reference line, we find that G1 experience greater vertical mismatch than natives.
