Americans will even fire press secretaries to invent new units of measure to avoid having to use the metric system.

Brown Computer Science / Brown University || BootstrapWorld || Pyret || Racket I'm unreasonably fascinated by, delighted by, and excited about #compsci #education #cycling #cricket and the general human experience.
I came up with a phrase that encapsulates how I feel about people posting obviously genAI comments in replies just because they had to go ask the AI about something: "we don't need you to claude that for us"
Most of this is very bleak and I don't get all the cultural references, but I'm completely cracking up at them referring to the Bay Area as the Bayesian Area.

Fun new acquisition: an illuminated copy of the 1470 edition of De civitate Dei, published in Venice by the brothers Johannes and Vindelinus de Spira.
Am I the only one who thinks there's something extremely artificial-looking about the report? I really am not judging her personal appearance, just that there's a whiff of something very weird. Especially if you compare w/ how she looks in the last 2-3 seconds. Feels like it's not just lighting…
Wednesday marked the start of early voting in Rhode Island. Sophia Szabo spoke to the top three contenders for governor after yesterday's 12 News/Emerson College poll: https://www.wpri.com/news/elections/early-voting-for-rhode-island-general-election-begins/
It's clear we need to get as much essential code written and essential theorems proved before these companies crater. Max plans, etc.
Anthropic just told potential investors its Q3 revenue was $16.8B, previous reporting had them reaching $65B run rate by the end of July. Unless there's an accounting difference between the figures, this points to a significant revenue growth slowdown in the last two months.

Pleased to announce shplait/liquid, a liquid-typed version of shplait, the language of my book PLAI. This version adds liquid-typing, a form of refinement types. It's primarily meant to be a small language for pedagogic purposes to induce people to try grown-up ones later. ↵
I'm impressed (in a good way!) that this review of a book about the tragic killing of Malcolm Kerr, American University of Beirut president, never once mentions his son. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/12/b...

After months of getting things done w/ Claude Code, I've spent ~5 days programming by hand in Lean and a liquid typed language and it's…SO GREAT? I love living in a world where I can get 1000s of mindless LOC in a minute, but also spend an hour on 10 gorgeous handcrafted lines.
Season 2 of @jarrodkimber.bsky.social's Double Century is one of the best abbreviated reports on race in cricket. Ostensibly about Basil D'Oliveira, it goes over a much longer history, even talking about US sports. This is the last episode, but listen to all 5. pocketcasts.com/podcast/comm...

Will be hilarious if OpenAI bends the knee to Trump and changes its name to OpenSI -- which frankly sounds like the underground LGBTQ+ club at St. Ignatius College Prep in SF.
