On 23 August 1939, a non-aggression pact between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union paved the way for the WWII. In protest against the Soviet occupation, OTD in 1989, 2 million people in 🇱🇹 🇱🇻 🇪🇪 stood in the Baltic Way, expressing the will to break free from the evil empire.

At EU #GAC, Deputy Minister Sigitas Mitkus congratulated Ireland on the assuming the Presidency of EU Council, and noted that it marks an important milestone in the preparations for Lithuania's presidency in 2027. Ministers also discussed simplification, future MFF, and rule of law dialogue.

Historical milestone - Ukraine and Moldova official begins their accession negotiations! Congratulations! 🎉 Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister S. Mitkus emphasized - this step represents efforts of both countries to move forward with reforms even in the face of unprecedented threats.

On June 15, 1940, the USSR occupied Lithuania. Soviets did not care about breaking international treaties. Deportations, murders, and terrors followed for the next 50 years. Russia took on the legacy of the USSR. The aggressor cannot be tolerated and must be stopped.

The USSR regime claimed millions of innocent lives. The first mass deportation of Lithuanian residents took place on 14-19 June 1941. Around 17K innocent people were deported from Lithuania to Siberia – most of them were women & children. Many never returned home.
