We’ve also just heard about one of our colour-ringed Common Tern chicks (ringed on the #FriendsoftheLDV raft at Wheldrake Ings in July 2019) – now present at @tophilllow.bsky.social – it's always nice to receive an update on our ringed birds and to hear about where they are currently residing! 😃
Since our project began in 2018, we've now had individuals reported from @tophilllow.bsky.social, @northcavewet.bsky.social, RSPB Aire Valley and the Farne Islands, and Formby Point and Seaforth Nature Reserve in Merseyside – as well as one seen off the coast of the Gambia @yorkbirding.bsky.social
Not far behind this sighting came news of another individual (ringed in 2023 on the #FriendsoftheLDV raft at Wheldrake Ings) – from North Cave Wetlands in East Yorkshire. A great link between the sites and hopefully breeding there. Thank you to Liz Newton for the record and photograph 📸

Our volunteer team have been busy planting up our new NNR Base garden at Bank Island again this week, kindly putting in more plants supplied by the @tophilllow.bsky.social nursey, inc. Greater Water Parsnip, Greater Fen Sedge, Yellow Flag Iris, Tansy, Marsh Marigold and Marsh Pea 🌿🌱
Brilliant to also see the work being done at the @tophilllow.bsky.social plant nursey by John and his team - a host of wetland plants are currently being grown, with the aim of helping to recover rare, scarce & declining species across Yorkshire 🌿 Many thanks to Richard and his team for hosting.
Great visit to @tophilllow.bsky.social yesterday by our @naturalengland.bsky.social Yorkshire/Lincolnshire NNR team – good to see all of the developments going on at this fantastic reserve, and to share thoughts and ideas on volunteering, funding models and visitor management.

Yesterday the @naturalengland.bsky.social Sustainable Development team visited our NNR Base for a meeting, and then helped to plant out some of the @tophilllow.bsky.social plants - hopefully our new wetland area can help to tell a story and act as a hub for further #NatureRecovery
Thank you to @tophilllow.bsky.social for kindly providing a selection of wetland plants for our wetland/pond area at our (soon to be completed) new NNR Base - these plants have come from the Tophill Low nursery, which is aimed at recovering rare, scarce & declining species across Yorkshire.
Day 1 of the North East trip was spent @tophilllow.bsky.social, which is where I got Lifer ✅ number 1. It was a Yellow Wagtail which sadly didn't come close to the hide, so all the shots are at a good distance. All the shots are off the rear camera screen. #birds #ECK #CanonR5mkii #photography
