I'm going to make you all happy (if you use an iPhone and have upgraded to iOS 27). Go to Settings > Apps > Messages > Show in Text Field and set it to Off. This disables the record audio snippet button I know you (and I) accidentally tap all the time. I never send audio messages.

Algorithms killed the spectrum of emotional valences. Everything now is set to 10. Bring back the eyeroll, the exasperated sigh, the hand wave, the shoulder shrug. Some stuff is just mildly annoying or blandly dumb. You don’t need to blow every emotional outburst on the mundane.
