Itโ€™s probably too easy for guys in games to read this and thoughtlessly co-sign it, assured that we are not being talked about. Solidarity has to mean more than recognizing the problem in others. We need to confront each other and sacrifice our own privilege, access, and comfort when it counts.

men in gaming donโ€™t realize that no one is blameless when the culture is against women. i cried at SGF bc i was surrounded by male peers commenting on how i looked, not understanding that it made me feel just as alone as when the random guy on the street told me to lift my skirt

Remember that abuse comes in all shapes and forms, including psychological abuse. Men will downplay and invalidate your experiences. They will gaslight you into thinking you're the problem. They will manipulate you and everyone around you to turn themselves into the victim and always have an excuse.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Idk, man. Shits terrible and exhausting. All I can say is believe women. Support women. It's so frightening to exist in this world as a woman, and even more so to come out and name abusers, especially because half the time nothing comes from it or people just don't care.
