I was going through my archives and found these portraits I created some years ago, for the Brazilian edition of The Five, Hallie Rubenhold’s book about Jack the Ripper’s victims. I spent quite some time researching the women, hoping to give each their own features and personality.

I have to wonder how many of these are AI users themselves who cannot tell the difference, or do it to hurt, or to profit from a world where everyone distrusts everything. 'Cause when AI can't make real art, making most people stop believing in the existence of real art seems like the next trick.

I found out that you can glaze over gouache with transparent layers and that changes everything! Here I was laboriously applying opaque color when I wanted to correct a hue... I thought applying a thin layer would just reactivate the paint and make a mess, but it can be done if you're careful.

Creative people tend to be more empathetic because empathy takes creative ability. To be able to conceive a living a different reality, with different conditions, to imagine being a different person and how it'd feel, and understand that their experience is just as real as your own.
