I’ve worn a grubby RNLI cap for decades. I sound London, but I was born in Truro and I was a basically feral (Gen X) kid wandering the coast path with a dog until sunset for a lot of my early life. The lifeboats are in the fabric like trawlers and farms and pasties and fish and chips.

Long time ago, I talked to someone who worked for the oil industry. I suggested the industry might be harmful. He told me if he gave me a small bowl of crude, it wouldn't do any harm. It was everything around it that did the harm. I don't know what to think really. Mostly I just feel sad.

If I was just a little more condescending, I'd start a web series where I sit down with someone who thinks LLMs are inherently harmful, help them install one on their laptop, and then we sit and wait for it to do something harmful on it's own. 30 minutes of uncomfortable silence. "Any moment now..."

This is great stuff. The reality of delivering change into high inertia organisations.
