Too many people are giving up on OSS. We are problem-solvers, so let's solve the problem. Together.

I feel like these newly discovered AI-only developers are acting like leaders of a shady cult. They say I need to surrender to the inevitable. The pressure. Stop fighting and just reach the final stage of grief: acceptance. My only stage is skepticism. To all of them, blink twice if you need help
My AI contribution policy has been improved and is now part of ai-policy.dev, an open-source collection of AI policies. It's not a silver bullet. You can't enforce a policy programmatically, but it helps you and everyone contributing understand where your project stands.

Today we're launching ai-policy.dev! A collaboration of me, @danielroe.dev and @matteogabriele.npmx.social - this provides a few human curated AI contribution policies you can choose from. Our hope is that this will help you better define your stance and what kind of contributions you accept 🙏

'Vibecoding' is only a year old, but it feels like it's been here forever. Who knew the future of software would look like this.
This is my take on AI contribution policy: it is not a layer of your workflow I need to know about, and you need to be engaged enough to fool me.
You might think I'm crazy, but yesterday I worked on my website, and I was in the zone for hours, like the good old days. It was just me, a mechanical keyboard, a nice VSCode theme paired with a good font, good music in my headphones, some coffee, and my brain. Let's all slow down a bit.
I haven't post anything from @zurichjs.com because I was too busy enjoying Zurichjs. I had a blast meeting so so so many beautiful people ❤️
AgentScan data, gathered hourly from 400 repos, clearly shows that for every PR you receive during the week-end, 1/3 to 1/2 will most likely be from an agent. Now using AgentScan helps OSS maintainers triage, to keep week-ends enjoyable.

Not sure why this isn't enabled by default, but if you are authoring a GitHub Action, turn on "Enable release immutability".
GitHub doesn't show how many projects use your GitHub Action or GitHub App, so I wrote a custom script to retrieve that information for AgentScan. I didn't expect this many projects ❤️ I'm stoked on one end and sad on the other for the mess AI spam is causing. Stay positive 💪

Inspired by @jviide.iki.fi post about GitHub name typosquatting, I made a prototype of a possible action we could use in our workflows 👀
I think we can all agree that the "good first issue" label is effectively dead.
Trust is the most valuable thing we're losing in OSS these days. Join communities, chat, have a laugh, learn how to give and accept feedback, and help out your favorite projects with some good old-fashioned code & love.
Wrote a userscript that adds "AI" labels to users detected by agentscan.tools (by @matteogabriele.npmx.social)! Much needed hints to judge "contributions" these days. 👉 github.com/bluwy/github...

Having someone like Uncle Bob preach clean code and AI at the same time makes absolutely no sense.
I know you don't want to read this, but you're getting dumber each time you make a prompt. This week, you are literally less smart than last week.
i've written up some thoughts about AI in the open source world, and more importantly, why humanity is important. its a bit wordy and doomy but this is an important topic right now. there is still a lot of good in the OSS world at least ❤️

Sorry, but if your title is "AI Native Engineer", I will most likely think less of you.
I feel like we might have stopped trying to struggle, understand, refactor, and evolve. DX issues have just been assigned to a different entity that then tells us what to do next.
