Tonight’s revelations about Reform demonstrate why getting ALL big money out of politics is long overdue. The 2007 Phillips report showed exactly how it should be done. Burnham would get huge credit for being the PM to finally act. He should announce party funding reform tomorrow.

Scrapping tax-free shopping (still offered by every EU country) was a terrible mistake. @mayoroflondon.bsky.social today calls for its return in the Budget. A new report from Cebr concludes that would boost economic growth by £11.5bn and sustain 153,000 jobs. www.thetimes.com/business/eco...

Shocked & saddened to hear of the death of Paul Barnes, CEO of the Assn of International Retail. We were in constant contact in recent years on the campaign to restore tax-free shopping and other issues he cared about, such as business rates. He brought great energy and enthusiasm to all he did. RIP

Andy Burnham’s performative localism and ‘Manchester clothes’ can’t mask a policy speech that was just a rehash of classic nonsense

To celebrate Brexit I propose that my village withdraws from the UK, declares sovereignty and stops paying tax to the uk govt. Of course, we still want govt funding, to travel freely around the country, use the NHS and other services, but as a small village we hold all the cards!
Two-thirds of Brits now believe Brexit has made every single issue they care about - whether it’s cost of living, economic growth, opportunities for young people, trade or managing illegal immigration - worse. Happy Brexit anniversary everyone! www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/brexit...
Two-Thirds Of Brits Believe Brexit Has Made Every Issue They Care About Worse, Survey Finds
10 years on from the EU referendum, Brits are gravitating more towards Europe compared to the US.

Brexiteers constantly try to dismiss polls showing a clear majority of voters want to rejoin the EU by saying they’ll change their minds when it becomes clear the UK would have to join the euro and Schengen. Tonight Michel Barnier makes clear our old opt outs would be reinstated
There is a japanese legend that says, "If you get on the wrong train, get off at the nearest station; the longer it takes you to get off, the more expensive the return trip will be." And it's not only about trains. #Brexit

One amusing byproduct of the Labour leadership candidates advocating the UK returning to Europe is that Farage will be forced back onto what is now, for obvious reasons, his least favourite subject: Brexit. Let’s see him forced to defend it in every interview.

Sky News projecting a national vote share for Reform of 27%, based on results so far. That’s four points down on what they achieved in local elections last year. Somewhat of a counter to the prevailing narrative. More evidence that Reform appears to have peaked.
Threatening to withhold resources from areas that don’t vote the “right” way is an old if profoundly undemocratic trick of authoritarian regimes down the ages. Reform are going a step further and promising active punishment. How will voters respond to blackmail? I don’t think it will be popular.

This sort of rhetoric would have ended any previous presidency. But the US establishment has accepted, normalised and encouraged it, so it will be forgotten by tomorrow, and the reputation of the US dragged a little further into the gutter.
Trump: "Somalia, it's got no anything. It's got one thing that's really strong -- crime. All they do is run around shooting each other. It's filthy dirty, disgusting. It's a horrible place. The current government's approach to rebuilding ties with Europe is welcome and beneficial. But this alone won't come close to reversing the damage...
