BRAPA - British Real Ale Pub Adventure I'm visiting all 4500 pubs in the current Good Beer Guide. One pint per pub, 25 minute minimum stay. Them's the rules! Blog - simeyeveritt.wixsite.com/BRAPA
York Tap, York. Everyone’s 11th favourite station pub stinks on a 7/10 level tonight, but the atmos is shoe gaze soothing. A demure version of Ashley from work serves me 7 Bros Honeycomb. Subtler than I’d like at this stage. Bored wife of Garfunkel and Dennis Coard says hi.
Parcel Yard, King’s Cross. Ah shit, here we go again. Tried to avoid it today but had no luck with pubs n transport and all I could do at this late stage. ESB back on n drinking well. Man tries to explain exponential growth to his girlfriend in a way which makes her slap him.
Pub 3344, Blue Maid , Borough. Funky little corner bar with good bit of mosaic I forgot to photo, the hottest jug handle in BRAPA history, a howling mild, solid ironic Bauhaus boy and Americans who aren’t sure how everything works.
Pub 3343, Wig & Pen, Northampton. Quality town centre aliver. Shiny table tops, grimy carpet. Cornish Knocker flashing well. Sure he was a busty barmaid when I started drinking? If you’ve seen the film ‘Near Dark’, this is the UK version of the bar in that.
Pub 3342, Queen Adelaide, Northampton. Backstreet booze hole in northern outreaches. Elderly sausage fest. More skittles! Taste the rainbow. The 6X is foamy and life giving. Uber wouldn’t take me to MK, only NN. So I’m having to adapt. Tough life pub ticking.
Pub 3341, Boat Inn, Stoke Bruerne. Canalside class. Must be one of the finest I’ve seen. Multi room bliss, and all the dorks are eating or gawping at water. Clarkson branching out into cask and yummy it is. Northants Skittles UNDER arm?? Could never be me.
Introducing Lucas HerringGull, who has come in from Basildon eBay for £8. The young Aussie loves a coastal inn, going to the loo and demands a bowl of chips in every pub.
Goood morning all from a sunny SE 🌞 Just made my connection despite some crawling thru Herts so still on course for 11:30 ‘Spoons before a more exciting 2nd. Have great weekend and keep it pub 🍻 #BRAPA
York Tap, York. Revisit. Solidarity 👊. After the Guardian cruelly denied it a place in their top 10 station pubs. Look at its face! Doesn’t even stink today. Beautifully quiet. No Miss Wetnose though. White choc stout weird . Chatty man (not Alan Carr).
Revisit! Parcel Yard, King’s Cross. ESB off so Red Fox substitute 🦊 Busy so forced into leather green piss waiting seats ? 💺 💚 I’ve had happier PY experiences but I’m still enjoying it weirdly. Stockholm syndrome most probably.
Pub 3340, Dundas Arms, Kintbury. Bye to Tim and hello to a sausage roll forward, Butcombe gloom fest where someone would occasionally laugh because a northern couple are sat on a bench. I’ve seen better GBG pubs but you can’t dispute the effort.
Pub 3339, Borough Arms , Hungerford. Weird people not quite human, but emotional. Nice building shape n motivated carpet. Slick marmalade ale from the Wadworth craft arm. Tim Euro chat keeps me sane. Winkle cup n party puffs.
Pub 3338, Tally Ho! Hungerford Newtown. Best yet! Wood panelling and yes I did all the colouring in . I beat Tim 1-0 in the table football (Torquay v Man U) but he had higher xG. Greyhound wandered behind bar to confuse stick woman.
Pub 3337 Swan at Compton, Compton. It sucked quite bad balls. Despite mobility scooter and olive green beginnings (Tim buying same coloured tablecloth later today). Positives? Pint glass fun. Barmaid confessed easily confused. Thought I lost Stabilo but found it in Timmobile
Pub 3336 Ye Olde Red Lion, Chieveley. The West Berks legend @timofnewbury.bsky.social is here 🥳 Let’s hope if it comes to fruition, Doug’s Vision board doesn’t spoil the gentle olde worlde atmosphere. Arkell’s IPA drinking very nice, c’mon I need a second pint 🍺
Happy #ThirstyThursday 🍻 I’m being driven around by kind #PubMan I’ve not seen for a while 👨 in a county where I need 15. Grand Central booked 3 of us in same seat! Very cosy 😆. Might need to give them a DrossCountry style nickname. See you soon, Si
Pub 3335, Carpenters, Westwoodside. My bacon & cheese diamond plus Pig Barn red (actually black) perfect pair. Pub sign was proper bland, but the people refused to let boring happen!!
Pub 3334, Plough, Nettleham. Juicy carpet, lively village scene. Oakham Citra burns like a baby. Party lasses like a gentle version of long Sutton. Can we squeeze out one pub north of here? Yes I hope!
Pub 3333, Fortescue, Tattershall. Boozer! Sea Fury drinking well. Sounds like Battle of Britain all the planes above. Despite bright blue sky, not seen one. Blind Sooty loves his country. Accrington scores before Dad can get Mini Cheddars in.
Pub 3332, Wheatsheaf Bar & Grill, Hubberts Bridge. Stuffy onion ring stinker indoors, but nice floppy barman and decent Yella Belly. Slim beer garden easily the highlight, I put pub umbrella up effortlessly for first time in my life!
Pub 3331, Ship Inn, Fosdyke. Bit of quality this. Exciting river location, float your body down to the Wash after too much Broadside. New barrel Ghost Ship drinks great. Dad tempted by curry but ultimately his cheese n cuce sandwich exceeded expectations.
Pub 3330, Palmers Alehouse & Kitchen, Long Sutton. Pink twinkler open an hour later than advertised, sticky floor, awful Highland Cattle prints and abysmal lounge covers (Wonderwall n Light my Fire the worst). Party girls following us around. Swearing incident. Good fun!
Welcome to the first official Saturday of the 2026/27 pub ticking season. Daddy BRAPA Lincs car day, it simply had to be 🚗 🍻 Got lost in Garforth but back on track now. See you 11:55am for pub one. #BRAPA
York Tap. Revisit! Still in GBG. Loos celebrating by stinking their worst in ‘26. Some nobs were queuing station side so male version of Miss Wetnose came round to serve me a delightful choc doughnut stout. Angry Anderson n Eternal singing well.
Pub 3329 Country House, Earlsfield. Known as ‘The Fog’ cos Victorian lads popped in on way home from work n told wives ‘The Fog’. Still boozery today, carpet 8, TT dark only beer on but better than WoT. Blokes discuss an Ugandan lesbian.
