We've updated the preprint of our Naturalistic Computational Cognitive Science paper (arxiv.org/abs/2502.20349) — we've tried to clarify and streamline the arguments, and added some new examples: 1/5
Naturalistic Computational Cognitive Science: Towards generalizable models and theories that capture the full range of natural behavior
How can cognitive science build generalizable theories that span the full scope of natural situations and behaviors? We argue that progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers timely opportunities ...

Some incredibly exciting news that still feels a bit surreal: I am starting my research group @mpicybernetics.bsky.social! The best part? We are hiring at all levels! Curious about the science we plan to tackle, read along :) #NeuroSky
Somewhat late but thrilled to share that our paper on Algorithmic Primitives & Compositional Geometry of Reasoning in Language Models was accepted to ICML 2026. Huge thanks to incredible coauthors, esp @sflippl.bsky.social @eberleoliver.bsky.social @thomasmcgee.bsky.social. Camera ready coming soon.
Pleased to share new work with @sflippl.bsky.social @eberleoliver.bsky.social @thomasmcgee.bsky.social & undergrad interns at Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics, UCLA. Algorithmic Primitives and Compositional Geometry of Reasoning in Language Models www.arxiv.org/pdf/2510.15987 🧵1/n
Really enjoyed Goodfire’s neural geometry posts. A few thoughts. The current examples mostly focus on explicit variables, e.g., days of the week, and show how their geometry in activation space mirrors the geometry of the model’s outputs/behavior. (1/3)
Goodfire released a megapost of all the random feature geometry stuff they're finding, and it's worth a read
New paper 🚨 #ICLR26 Most world models predict the future from a past trajectory. But neuroscience suggests that such inference can instead be made from temporally independent experiences. We built the Episodic Spatial World Model (ESWM), a model that does exactly this: Video abstract [1/2]
Want to match neural representations from different days and get more trials for analyses? Interested in multi-scale neural dynamics in decision variability? Visit our #cosyne2026 poster today afternoon (Sat)! 3-161: Dynamics-based alignment across sessions reveals latent neural computation
Don't miss @maxschwabe.bsky.social's poster this evening (our master's student and presenter awardee 🎉) on decomposing RNN dynamics during naturalistic decision-making! It was a joint work with @armanbehrad.bsky.social and @roxana-zeraati.bsky.social!
1-031, Poster session 1 (Thu, Mar. 12, 20:30): @maxschwabe.bsky.social (a Cosyne presenter awardee 🎉, a MASTER student) will present how decomposing neural dynamics to intrinsic and input-driven modes can tell us how naturalistic decision computations are realized in the RNNs.
Excited to be at #Cosyne2026! I'll be presenting my poster tomorrow during the Thursday session: [1-106] “A biologically inspired predictive coding algorithm with multiplicative and additive feedback”. With @colin-bredenberg.bsky.social and @tyrellturing.bsky.social
I’ll be presenting our work, supervised by Peter E. Latham and in collaboration with @krotov.bsky.social, at #COSYNE2026. Full paper: arxiv.org/pdf/2601.00984 (to be presented at #ICLR2026). For a summary--or to see the poster if you’re not attending--check out www.linkedin.com/posts/mohade...
Excited to give a talk at #Cosyne2026 about my PhD work! We show that RNNs trained on visual search converge on brain-like solutions, producing primate-like behavior and neural representations. Happy to chat if you're at Cosyne! 📅 March 15, 2026 📍 Lisbon, Portugal www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

In this piece for @thetransmitter.bsky.social, I argue that ecological neuroscience should leverage generative video and interactive models to simulate the world from animals' perspectives. The technological building blocks are almost here - we just need to align them for this application. 🧠🤖
Generative AI will offer a new way to see, simulate and hypothesize about how animals experience their worlds. In doing so, it could help bridge the long-standing gap between neural function and behavior, writes @shahabbakht.bsky.social. #neuroskyence www.thetransmitter.org/artificial-i...
Thrilled to start 2026 as faculty in Psych & CS @ualberta.bsky.social + Amii.ca Fellow! 🥳 Recruiting students to develop theories of cognition in natural & artificial systems 🤖💭🧠. Find me at #NeurIPS2025 workshops (speaking coginterp.github.io/neurips2025 & organising @dataonbrainmind.bsky.social)
1/9 🚨Thrilled to share "Caption This, Reason That", a #NeurIPS2025 Spotlight! 🔦 Meet us at #2112, 3 Dec 11 a.m. We analyze VLM limitations through the lens of Cognitive Science (Perception, Attention, Memory) and propose a simple "Self-Captioning" method that boosts spatial reasoning by ~18%. 🧵👇
I’m looking for interns to join our lab for a project on foundation models in neuroscience. Funded by @ivado.bsky.social and in collaboration with the IVADO regroupement 1 (AI and Neuroscience: ivado.ca/en/regroupem...). Interested? See the details in the comments. (1/3) 🧠🤖
