For lovers of traditional songs to share their favourite songs every Tuesday.
I was a bit worried that the theme this week was too hard, but you've been brilliant! And I've really enjoyed hunting out songs to fit in. My last one for today is this song from Cyril Tawney but just be careful as this clip is of the whole album of the same name. youtube.com/watch?v=akl8...

Well found! This is the song I was looking for earlier and couldn't find. #strawandhay
Mandy@mandywest.bsky.social · 6d agoThe song “Mrs Grieg” ( Roud 5161) ….also known by another title “ Man of Straw” ( and in the lyrics) Quite difficult to understand a lot of the words here but fits the theme of #strawandhay @tradsongtues.bsky.social m.youtube.com/watch?v=Cl_q...
Things have gone a bit quiet ..... there are more songs out there. If you don't find any more I'll post another couple later. #strawandhay

I can't find a version of this that I can share - unless one of you can find it? It's on Bandcamp on Jock Duncan's album Aikey Brae to Ythanside if you want to have a listen. A humerous song. mainlynorfolk.info/folk/songs/m...

Mandy@mandywest.bsky.social · 7d agoAn early contribution from me before work. @tradsongtues.bsky.social A song from the Copper family repertoire covered/arranged wonderfully here by Jon and Jackie. Roud no.153. This song has a couple of alternative titles. #strawandhay m.youtube.com/watch?v=FY_t...

Definitely a bit trickier this one but I see we have lots of contributions already. I'll start off with one where Nellie gets up to mischief in the cocks of hay. #strawandhay youtube.com/watch?v=zlao...

A little bit harder for next week 6th October, our theme will be #strawandhay. It will test your knowledge of songs so let's see what you can find.
And here's a map to support the song posted earlier #placenames
Solomon Foster@colomon.bsky.social · 2w agoThe website for the album whose track I linked to actually has a a map! If you find Beaver Island, the dotted line going down to Traverse City and then back up to an X is the presumed path of the trip.
I need to finish a little early today as I have a meeting, so I'll finish in Staines. We've had a really good set of songs today. Thanks for all your input. #placenames youtube.com/watch?v=QEhY...
