Many people don't want to reckon with individualism and capitalism induced hierarchy, which is hard. Instead they saw a way to position themselves as more moral and higher in the existing hierarchy and get rewarded socially and/or monetarily, which is easy.

As I read more and more books and papers and discussions of feminism and solidarity and movement politics, it becomes clear that the didactic energy of the 2010s was effectively neutered by people treating learning about oppression as personal improvement, self-help, and a kind of branding.

in short 1. libraries are great but they aren't magic, they're a social good that we need to invest in or that we will lose 2. if you're in florida vote no on 3 if you don't want to have to beg the state legislature separately for every little thing that local government does

I thought the thing a lot of people didn't like about the nebulous woke 1 era, for lack of a better term, was the cynical deployment of identity. But thinking about the depressing trans M4A discourse yesterday, it seems like that's the only thing centrists liked about it. That's the only thing left.
