STEWART: “Comedy doesn’t change the world, but it’s a bellwether— we’re the banana peel in the coal mine… authoritarians are the threat to comedy, music, art, thought… progress.” Nailed it.

While it's great when I can break a story first in our region, these stories are tough. I'm hoping to learn how many employees are being affected soon. Either way, it's bad news
Serta Mattress In Falconer Is Closing Serta Mattress in Falconer is closing. Sources say employees at the Mason Industrial Park factory were informed Thursday that the facility would be closing as of October 31, 2025. Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency CEO Mark Geise confirmed the…
My FB got suspended this morning for "violating community standards." Nothing I post should be considered a violation given that it's mostly about my pets/house. That said, I shared a column by Chris Armitage about "silent secession" a couple days ago & that's the only thing I can think triggered it
An IT worker for the nat'l parks drove to a bridge & called a friend to talk him down. A Medicaid researcher killed herself after repeating "I’m not enough" to her family. A Social Security worker, whose data was under siege by DOGE, died at her cubicle. www.washingtonpost.com/investigatio...
White House officials wanted to put federal workers ‘in trauma.’ It’s working.
Federal workers describe struggling with panic attacks, depression, suicidal thoughts. “Why doesn’t anyone care?”

First lawn mowing of the season complete. Only did 3/4 of the yard because the other 1/4 is going to have a dry well installed, get regraded, and then seeded with native clover.
Got to do one of my favorite annual interviews this morning with the executive director for the National Comedy Center. I've always enjoyed comedy but the opening of the Center combined with their annual Comedy Fest has really helped grow my interest. We're so very lucky here in Jamestown!
Easter spread with kielbasa, rye bread, hard boiled eggs, borscht, cheesy potatoes, placek, and more
This is where your Harry Potter money goes
jk rowling funded a case going before the supreme court that argues it should be legal to discriminate against and persecute trans ppl. yet still we have to listen to ‘centrists’ claiming she isn’t bigoted she just has ‘a difference of opinion’. no trans ppl have a voice in these proceedings.
I can see in my mail preview that I'm getting a jury summons for U.S. District Court. I'll ultimately be able to get out of it because of my job but hoping to avoid having to drive up to Buffalo all together.
A friend added me to a Spotify listening group where we submit songs based on a theme, listen to all the songs, and then vote on what we like. Lucky for me, the playlist dropped this morning so that's good to have in my ears as I write stories about who is running for local offices
Covered our local protest this morning. They had nearly 300 people, which is more than the last big protest they had in 2020 (we're a rural, red city). Crowd also older, whiter than the last time which seems to be the case for protests across the US today.
Ranked voting is something I think should be done wherever there's a primary. I'm sharing this not to tell you who to vote for in NYC but as an example of how the way you vote in ranked voting can lead to various outcomes.
Good morning. Monday morning. In a rank choice voting system you need to rank five good apples for mayor in addition to NOT ranking Cuomo and NOT ranking Adams. Please help spread the word! Share share share!!!! Copy and redo in your own words if you prefer!
They rearranged all the aisles, minus refrigerated and frozen, at our Aldi. Every shopper had that look of being in hell. I actually think this is what hell will be. On the upside, the AOS is one long aisle now
It's weeks like this where I've had evening mtgs to cover every night with last night's going over 3 hours that really give me the "this job is killing me" feeling. I mean, in some ways it is. I've gained 30lbs in the last 4 years, with 18 of those in the last 1.5 year. At least I like what I do
The Astro Girlies must be having a FIELD DAY with how spot on the military group chat on Signal that included a reporter coincides with Mercury In Retrograde. It's like.. but of course...
It's a really dystopian feeling that I have to put "measles" as a news topic for this week. Maybe it's a getting older thing, but 20 years ago doesn't seem that long ago and, yet, in that timeframe, the idea that vaccinations are an awesome, life saving thing has gone upside down
Wonder if Schumer will still try to visit all 62 counties in NYS this year if he's canceling book promotion stops due to "security concerns"
"All Fours" may end up on my DNF (did not finish) list. It's just not grabbing me. I'm perimenopausal but just not identifying with the main character. At least it was a library loan, so I didn't spend any $ on it.
I feel super bougie just casually eating hard boiled eggs I made over the weekend because our weekly egg CSA should start up Saturday where we get a dozen each week now until May (prepaid - $4.50/doz)
In the U.S., that's more than 11 hours a day, 7 days a week at the Federal Minimum wage of $7.25/hour. That's cruel and impossible to do for any length of time.
per week... #usa #classwar #americannightmare
Picked up some much needed coffee on the way to work. This is why I hate the Daylight Saving Time switch. I didn't sleep well. When my alarm went off, my body felt like it was being made to get up at 3:30am, and it's a long day for me with night mtgs to cover so no early to bed
Based on everything I'm reading and how inept this administration is, I'm placing bets on how soon we'll start seeing stories about how going vegan is a wallet friendly way to deal w/ rising chicken/beef costs due to Avian Flu. I say beginning of May w/ how the flu can be spread by migrating birds
Trump’s murderous freezing of aid that Congress enacted a law to send to Ukraine unconstitutionally usurps the power of the purse, violates the 1974 Impoundment Act, and is an impeachable “high crime and misdemeanor” akin to the extortion for which the Senate should have convicted Trump in 2020.
