That noise you do not hear today is the full one year under-reviewniversary of my paper coming and going. If a paper makes an argument and nobody is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

I yearn for a world where US protests were covered by news media the way the Italian press is covering this 🥹 No “protests turned violent”. No “clashes between protesters and police”. Just telling it like it is: people protesting within their rights, and police attacking them for doing so.

I've been thinking about what this means for philosophy and other theory-based academic work. I think the AI problem increases the value of trust/reputation (i.e., you know I won't write my stuff with AI) but it erects big barriers to new scholars trying to publish their first articles.

Obviously, I'm also against AI-written stories, but I find this notion that we as editors could or should demand a writer provide evidence that they created their stories troubling. We can’t allow this to become the standard practice; the potential for harm is too great.
