Official account for "A Tennantcy To Act", a Substack (& companion podcast) where I use my decade's worth of research into David Tennant's early works to explore all things weird, rare and obscure about his career! Find me at: atennantcytoact.substack.com

Buried with Michael Sheen is a two-part TV documentary from environmental journalists Dan Ashby and Lucy Taylor, alongside actor and activist Michael Sheen, who have dug into the questions: how many toxic chemicals have been dumped in Wales and how much of that remains in our ecosystem and bodies.

8/22 - We Are Astronomers Pretty cool educational short film that we watched inside a planetarium. Projecting it inside a dome gave it some neat depth, some parts looked kinda 3D, felt like I was gonna get crushed by some of the bits in the opening lol. David Tennant has a lovely voice

Finally circling back to focus on David Tennant's narration work. This time it's a 2007 Channel 4 documentary called 'The Human Footprint', all about what an average British lifetime adds up to. Swimming pools of beer, 74,802 cups of tea in Trafalgar Square, the works. And David, of course!

David Tennant as a Narrator: DT Goes A Bit Green - 'The Human Footprint' (2007)

One corner of David’s career I haven’t spent nearly enough time exploring here at A Tennantcy To Act is his work as a narrator.

So I started writing about an obscure thing David Tennant did, thinking, "Hey this'll be an easier thing to write about than most of the things I'm juggling, I can get this published a lot faster than normal..." BUT NO... The heavens just opened up on this and now I'm laughing at myself!

I've been doing research into 'The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui' for my next post. The amount of info I have for this play's overwhelming & there's much I want to share, but as I've been writing and collating and comparing and all the other -ings there are, I realized something:

So...I had (non-refundable hotel and) tix to see David during his appearance at the Lexington Comic & Toy Con (LCTC). He just cancelled. I'd thought about doing some fun stuff for DT fans I met there. If that's you and you're now bereft, hit me up in DMs!

Did you know David Tennant almost played a Beatles villain? In 2009, Disney and Robert Zemeckis planned a 3D motion-capture remake of the Beatle's 1968 animated film 'Yellow Submarine'. David was in talks for the Chief Blue Meanie, but the film collapsed before it was ever confirmed.

One of the more obscure corners of David Tennant's career is a 1997 performance of a large part of Act II, Scene IV from 'Measure for Measure', in which he played Angelo. We know next to nothing about it--but soon I'll be chatting with its director. I can't wait to share what I discover with y'all!

So excited! Just got a stash of six new posters to grow my collection of David Tennant theatre memorabilia. They are: What The Butler Saw Don Juan In Soho Vassa LA Without A Map Hamlet Love's Labour's Lost

Oh, I was so happy to see this! David Tennant picked 'Twelve Angry Men' as one of his Criterion Closet selections. But did you know he played Juror #8 (Henry Fonda's role) on stage during drama school? I spent months researching and reconstructing those productions. Read my 3-pt series here:

Early Theatre Deep Dive Pt 1: David Tennant in 'Twelve Angry Men' (1990)

...and his performances at the Third Eye Centre (now the CCA)
