Rufo literally offered a bounty to anyone who could produce a video of Haitians eating dogs. He got nothing. So he found a video of Congolese men grilling chicken and tried to claim they were cooking cats.

In response to people going after him for this, Friedersdorf claimed that he genuinely had no idea Rufo had anything to do with the Haitians in Springfield slurs and then got mad at people for acting like he was being a complete rube.

It’s a real dilemma. It’s why I hesitated for a long time after deradicalizing to begin being public with my story, and I’m constantly struggling to drag the conversation away from “wow so admirable” territory and into “how do we stop fascism” territory.

I would like media to care more about the reality that tech tycoons want to kill people than what they’re imagining about AI wanting to kill people. We have multi-millionaires (with support from billionaires!) calling for ethnic cleansing, a thing that has happened in living memory. Not theoretical!

Ytre høyres strategi er å 1) alltid fremstille det som et grovt overtramp mot liberale prinsipper dersom det stilles krav til dem som til alle andre, og 2) fremstille seg selv som et passivt produkt av hva *andre* gjør, som om de ikke har egen fri vilje. Sørgelig mange går fem på, hver eneste gang.

My central contention here is: we've been appeasing "legitimate concerns" for as long as I've been able to form memories and looking at the results I think it's possibly time to declare that experiment a failure and stop giving them what they want.
