Very exciting to hear Defra SoS Steve Reed announce today that government will produce a new food strategy. Promising to hear the level of cross-govt buy in including from PM, No 10, health, education and business. We look forward to hearing more on the timelines and the "co-created" process.

Already squeezed by supply chains, we wont tackle water pollution by playing a blame game with farmers. Our briefing looks at what govt can do to rapidly make progress on one of their flagship commitments. Plenty of scope to raise private finance, & ensure costs fall on those most able to pay.

We think investing in farmers to store more carbon, stop more floods & improve water quality is incredibly cost effective, but Defra need to make changes to its farming policy ahead of the next set of spending decisions to show Treausry every £ in their budget is a £ well spent.
