#ResistanceRoots Mary Hunter Austin was born on this day in 1868 in Carlinville, Ill. She was a writer, feminist, environmental conservationist and champion of Indigenous rights. Her life was shaped by the high desert landscapes she loved and battles over our most precious resource: water. /1

Mary Hunter Austin, by Charles F. Lummis, ca. 1900. Austin’s early writing is celebrated for its rich, mystical prose documenting the flora, fauna and Indigenous people of the high desert. Her environmental activism and Indigenous rights advocacy were driven by a mix of personal isolation, a lifelong rebellion against social conformity, and deep immersion in the landscapes and cultures of the American West. Rather than viewing issues in isolation, she developed a unified philosophy that rejected human dominance over both nature and women. Today, she is recognized as a pioneer of ecofeminism, nearly a century ahead of her time. Her later work explores how the exploitation of nature and the marginalization of women are rooted in the same societal power structures.

Somebody in the room needs the institutional authority to say: “Mr. President… what the fuck is wrong with you?” Apparently that position wasn’t included in the staffing plan.

Before I was a politician, I was a proud union member. I’m honored to stand with my union brothers and sisters on Labor Day and every day. In the Senate, I’ll fight to raise pay, lower costs, and empower Texas workers.

See this chart? Workers’ share of the nation’s income is at the lowest it’s been since records began in 1947. Corporate profits’ share, on the other hand, is the highest it’s been since 1950. This is why we must build back worker power.

#Denmark built so much wind that some blustery hours the turbines out-produce what the whole country is using. When that happens, the extra power doesn’t sit idle. It moves through Denmark’s links into the wider European network and heads to neighbors like Germany, Norway, Sweden. #ActOnClimate
