💢 Israeli strike kills Lebanese radio journalist in her home, Committee to Protect Journalists reports

Ghada Dayekh, a presenter with privately owned Sawt Al-Farah radio, was killed when an Israeli airstrike hit her apartment building in the southern coastal city of Tyre, destroying it, according to the outlet’s director. Dayekh had worked at the station for decades and had been on air for 37 years.

CPJ said her killing reflects a “continued pattern of harm against the press.” Her killing brings the number of journalists killed in Lebanon during the current conflict to six, including Mohammed Sherri, Hussain Hamood, Ali Shoaib, Fatima Ftouni, and Mohamad Ftouni. At least eight journalists have been killed since the Iran war began on February 28, according to CPJ.Bild

Amid all the other news, it's easy to become inured to the basic facts here. Öztürk: -Is not accused of committing any crime -Is nonviolent -Was in this country legally -Merely engaged in speech that the administration objects to -Has been locked up for six weeks

Now from Öztürk’s ACLU lawyer Esha Bhandari: “Rümeysa Öztürk’s case is unprecedented and shocking. She has been held behind bars for six weeks while her health deteriorates for writing an op-ed.”

The U.S. and Canada have co-managed the Great Lakes for over a century. Rising political tensions between the two nations might change that.

these are the material consequences of the adl and other major pro-israel institutions working to tie groups like sjp and jvp to terrorism: non-violent activists get treated by law enforcement as though they’re hiding bombs and AKs at home for doing basic misdemeanors

“The authorities told the family the raid was related to a spray-paint vandalism incident at George Mason’s campus in August — part of the widespread campus protests related to Israel’s war on Gaza.”

"Rumeysa has not been accused of committing any crime and DHS has not produced any evidence that she was engaged in any unlawful activities. Meanwhile, there is plenty of evidence of U.S. supplied bombs being dropped on Gaza killing over 1,000 people, including over 250 children in the last week."

New from Rumeysa Ozturk's lawyer: Rumeysa hasn't been accused of any crime & "DHS has not produced any evidence" that she did anything unlawful. Rumeysa wasn't able to speak to her lawyer for 24+ hours & not until after she was in Louisiana — despite a court order that she not be moved from Mass.

Israeli authorities released a Palestinian director of the Oscar-winning documentary "No Other Land." Hamdan Ballal tells the AP he was beaten by three Israeli settlers in the West Bank while another filmed the attack, and has bruises on his face and blood on his clothes.
