I’ve read 14 books and submitted 3 works so far in 2026 while working a 40 hour job and raising two children with a wife I try to be worthy of. Clap for my furry, short ass.

Spicy Cajun. I talk to trees. The book, the vinyl, and the original recipe are better. Dark Roux (Unsolicited Press, 2022) Soaked: Stories (Cornerstone Press, 2025) Shorter stuff in places like Barrelhouse Magazine. www.tobyleblancauthor.com
For what it's worth, this book is dedicated to my father, and maybe YOUR father would like it. Maybe. Father's Day IS coming up.
It's alive!! BODIES IN BAGS is out there in the world. With another kickass cover from @egallagher.bsky.social It's not going to be for everyone, but if you're into dark, gritty crime fiction, I hope you'll check it out. bookshop.org/p/books/bodi...
Money? Whatever. Notoriety? Psshh. Someone you met at book fair messaging to tell you your book made them like reading again? Keep your drugs.
What was the book that radicalized your thinking about anything (or everything)?

"Beyond the pain and the characters who bear it, this book is a commentary on the ways America abandons its people to fend for themselves." @tobyleblancauthor.bsky.social reviews A HISTORY OF HEARTACHE by Patrick Strickland. @melvillehouse.bsky.social southernreviewofbooks.com/2026/04/15/a...
I love word. I love sentence. I love story. I love word and sentence and story. I love trying with the experiences I've had and my very human mind to try to find a way to marry word and sentence and story to create something no mathematics can match.
This is truly one of the best poetry books I've ever read. Thanks to Deep South Magazine for posting my review! deepsouthmag.com/2026/04/01/m...

Unrelated to pretty much everything everyone in my feed is talking about, but it's lit fest season, and it's a great time to get out there and take advantage of it/support the arts. 1000wordsofsummer.substack.com/p/its-lit-fe...

Just searched up my book on the Google machine (as one does) and saw that it is a bestseller at Reverie Books here in Austin! There are still copies there. Stop by to show some love to the store that has shown so much to me: bookshop.org/lists/reveri...

Every time I read Elizabeth Strout I’m reminded of how little I know about writing.
Just wrote my review for @jameygallagher.bsky.social 's American Animism. This one's mortgage for book shelf space is already paid off. www.goodreads.com/book/show/22...

Looking at my previous post I see need to update on the circle of writing: I get to chat on Texas Public Radio about SOAKED next month. And a good friend in the film industry is eyeing one of my short stories to create around. We’re all on one big merry-go-round.
Nothing kills the motivation for a WIP like unflattering feedback on a previous project. Now trying to crawl out of the weekly "why am I doing this?" funk. #amwriting

GAB fest was a large time! We have a world class literary community in Austin.
Nobody told me that once you publish a book, you just want to publish another book.
Really liked this collection of connected stories by @tobyleblancauthor.bsky.social Because we're labelmates, I can't review it for #100smallpress, but it deserves recognition. Set in a "place where hope is for the wild and living is for the strong." A very human book set in near future Louisiana
Yesterday was the best book launch party with so many friends and family. But the introvert hangover where I replayed every convo in my head lasted too long. I didn’t say something awkward to you, did I?
"It is more important to live for the possibilities that lie ahead than to die in despair over what has been lost." The Great Barry Lopez #amreading
Things like necks and hips hurt more. Hangovers are murderous. But letting things be is much easier. And standing up when it counts hurts less. Trade off of aging.
SOAKED is here! Find it wherever you buy your books. If your favorite bookstore doesn't have it on the shelf, ask them to order it for you (and a few extra copies to leave on the shelf :)
