Apologies for this long post I put together to explain to non-scientists the impact of NIH cuts: Last night, an “atomic bomb” was dropped on the biomedical science community. We were informed that effective immediately, indirect costs on NIH grants (both current and future) would be fixed at 15%.
Everyone please contact your state representatives ASAP and let them know how damaging this is for science, the workforce, and patients who benefit from the research being done. I've been told it's best to use your personal email addresses rather than work addresses when writing to congress.
Katie Mack@astrokatie.com · 2y agoI think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service. “Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.
