Who benefits from carbon removal & who pays the price? A new @newslaundry.com investigation examines biochar projects in Gujarat’s Banni grasslands, raising questions about community impacts, water use and ecosystem restoration. Research supported by GFC

As climate firm sells to Big Tech, a Gujarat grassland is left behind

Varaha’s promise of community-led restoration stands tested in what was once Asia’s largest and finest tropical grassland.

Next week at #ClimateWeekNYC, we’re co-hosting an event ‘Scientific Assessment of Geoengineering Proposals for Polar Regions’ that grounds discussions on polar geoengineering in science, environmental risks, effectiveness to unpack what’s actually at stake.

Ammonia for synthetic fertilizers is largely made using fossil gas and is energy intensive, with emissions released during production and use. #CCS makes this worse, requiring even more energy to capture emissions. CCS risks becoming a costly way for polluters to keep polluting. 👉 bit.ly/46ksfRH

Is Europe’s largest carbon capture project ‘a pass to keep polluting’?

Carbon capture and storage has been found to be “technically uncertain and very high cost”.

Last year’s ICJ AO affirmed: Governments have a clear legal duty to stop climate harm at its source. Real solutions exist: holding polluters accountable, empowering frontline communities, and a rapid and just phaseout of fossil fuels. Full statement: bit.ly/4dffY4F

CIEL Statement: 'Managing’ Overshoot is Not a Strategy - Center for International Environmental Law

CIEL responds to UNEP's "Limiting Overshoot" report. Governments have a legal duty to phase out fossil fuels, not gamble on CDR.

Real wins come from real resistance. This International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, we stand in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples, who as protectors of Mother Earth and Father Sky, are at the frontlines fighting geoengineering projects and experiments being done on their territories.
