today is my thirtieth ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ it is a milestone I crawled to, but one that art helped guarantee. thank you for being here to share in the woes and wonders of life โ€” but most importantly the imagination. the stranger, the better. here's to that strangeness.

[ First Blood / P1-8] This 12-page comic took far longer than it ever should have but here we finally are: Vespertine's devastating backstory. I've never poured this much time into an OC project before so...this feels very vulnerable??? (pls be nice lol) CW: Child neglect / general violence

Digitally illustrated comic pages in black and white: Page one, A horned baby is found in the ruined remains of a caravan. The parents, also people with horns lie dead. Page two, a family has taken the baby in and named him Mikhail. He bites the mother who tries to nurse him, does not speak for a long time and then quickly grows much taller than his adoptive sister, who is several years older than him....Digitally illustrated comic pages in black and white: Page three, it becomes clear he does not fit in. He eats too much, he is feared among the village children and injures them when trying to play with them, he is not allowed to go to festivities for fear he might cause trouble. He begins to feel isolated. Page 4, he thinks back to his only true friend, his sister Sara. Always there for him, kind to him. She buys him a toy sword, cheers him up and accepts him as he reveals that his gender identity might not align with what people think. Digitally illustrated comic pages in black and white: Page five, it is due to this connection that Mikhail (they/them) senses a change in Sara. She becomes sad and distance. Soon, they learn that Sara has been betrothed and is to be married and sent away. Page six, the sorrow grows. They cannot do anything to help Sara, feel alone...the memories fade into a 'now.' Mikhail stands outside in the snow, playing by themself.Digitally illustrated comic pages in black and white: Page 7 Mikhail plays alone with a sword and hobby horse. They seem innocent and happy - they are just a child. They hear Sara's voice on the wind, distressed. Page 8, following the noise, they spot Sara being harassed by their fiance, who is trying to talk her into sexual activity. Resisting, she angers him and he strikes her face. It is then that Sara spots Mikhail, who is watching all this. She is afraid and tells Mikhail to stay away, trying to protect her little sibling.
