Audio journalism and documentaries. Series 2 Past Sounds podcast http://bit.ly/3f1bKyE Co-Editor RadioDoc Review https://ro.uow.edu.au/rdr/

The Sonic Histories of Cork City Project (SHOCC)(2018–2021) explored the connections between sound, space, and history in Cork City, recreating historical soundscapes through archival research.

Listening to a few of Kaye Mortley’s docs and liking them but wishing for a little more story structure. But then listening to heavily explained ones and wishing to be left alone a bit to listen after my ears were used to free rein.

I’ve been listening to and watching a lot of documentaries this week for research and planning teaching. It’s inspiring and also emotionally draining. And now I have to go Christmas food shopping, which is quite the wake up call.

“It’s made me challenge how you can tell a story… we’re in danger of having a really beige audio landscape” “I found Short Cuts to be one of the most beautiful, creative and diverse podcasts available” Moved hearing listeners & makers on @BBCR4Feedback www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

The strength of feeling over the last few days has blown us away. Underneath the reaction it strikes us that there is a deeper, more important anger - an anger that asks - where are the structures to support creative audio? Where do new audio imaginations get to grow? 🪴

So many reasons to save Short Cuts. We have wonderful longform and serial podcasts but there’s something special about Short Cuts and unless there’s a proposal for an even better replacement, it’s worth fighting for. Please consider signing if you love listening or teaching or making it!

There's a letter urging the BBC to reconsider their cancellation of Short Cuts. "It is an irreplaceable show, with a dedicated audience, an unmatched cultural impact and a team that nurtures talent and stories with a rare sensibility and care." Sign the open letter: docs.google.com/document/d/1...
