This is so dumb and hostile and dangerous. The reason these Guard members are trying to rapidly qualify with pistols is because they don't normally carry them and they're not trained to use them. Just a total slapdash operation thrown together. They're trying to quickly turn soldiers into cops.

SCOOP — Members of DC National Guard are preparing to carry M17 pistols, multiple sources confirm to me. This follows earlier reports that the guard reversed course and would soon be arming members in DC. Now we know they’re making sure they meet requirements if/when the order to arm them comes.

People exploding this false messaging that I voted for a bill + funding that I quite literally voted NO on. The threat environment this morning is scary. Doesn’t help anyone. Drag me for the position if you disagree but don’t lie. It’s out of control. Saying I voted for this funding is false.
