It is with deep sorrow that we announce the tragic killing of our colleague, Ziyad El Toum. Ziyad, 46, was killed near his home in Khan Younis in Gaza around 04 July 2025, while attempting, along with his relatives, to reach and assist an injured family member. Tragically, Ziyad and his relatives did not survive. Ziyad’s killing is a devastating loss for his family and friends and our entire team. We extend our deepest condolences to Ziyad’s wife, extended family, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

📍 Gaza | We are devastated by the killing of our colleague Mahmoud Barakeh, who worked at the Red Cross Field Hospital. He was killed on his way home on Sunday, 22 June. Our hearts are with his family and loved ones. Five ICRC colleagues have been killed in Gaza since October 2023.

We are very sad to announce the death of another ICRC colleague in Gaza. Mahmoud Barakeh, who worked supporting logistics at the Red Cross Field Hospital in Rafah, was killed on Sunday, 22nd June. Mahmoud leaves behind his wife, three sons, and two daughters. His killing is a profound personal loss and a painful moment for our teams. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of working alongside him. This heartbreaking loss is yet another stark reminder of the immense challenges our colleagues and the people of Gaza, face each day.

The number of missing persons and suffering endured by their families is a measure of the failure of respect for international humanitarian law in wars. Peace for these families is not just the end of conflict. The fate of missing persons must be a priority on the way to peace.

Thousands of civilians have been displaced in the northern West Bank due to ongoing security operations. Many are now unable to return home as buildings have been damaged, with some reduced to rubble, and urgently need humanitarian assistance 👇🏽

We are deeply concerned with the impact of ongoing security operations on the civilian population in Jenin and Tulkarem, Tubas, and other locations in the northern West Bank. Many people have fled their homes to take shelter, including in crowded mosques and schools. With many homes damaged or destroyed, people are struggling to access basic needs such as clean water, food, medical care, and shelter. Winter weather has made it more difficult to survive. Displaced civilians are also struggling to find information about family members who have gone missing or who might have been detained. We are working with the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to coordinate aid distribution and medical evacuations. Displaced civilians in the northern West Bank requires urgent assistance. Finally, we reiterate that people should be treated humanely and protected from violence.
