Absolute pleasure to welcome Joost Helms to Newport. His experience helping transform Eindhoven into Europe’s leading tech hub through Brainport offers valuable insight. I believe Newport is on the same trajectory, ready to lead the next Industrial Revolution for us, our children and grandchildren.

Our No One Left Behind initiative is now backed by £1m to tackle inequality across Newport. Great to see 16 community-led projects already underway in Duffryn, and I’m delighted we’re investing a further £500,000 in the fantastic community of Bettws. No one left behind.

Last week, I was delighted to announce £500,000 in funding to support community groups through a new community grant programme and help deliver upcoming events in Newport city centre, including the popular food festival. These events and groups bring people together and thus remains a top priority.

Like many, I loved Channel 4’s Football Italia when I was growing up. Can’t wait to try and get tickets for the game. Let’s give Roma a lovely Newport welcome 😬.

Newport at the top table of European cities - exactly where we belong. Wales’ only city in the programme, learning from and contributing to the very best. As a leader, I’ll never stop learning and improving on how we tackle inequality in Newport and making sure no one is left behind.

Congratulations to Newport’s new Mayor, Cllr Deb Harvey, who will be a fantastic advocate and representative for our city. I’m honoured to have been re-elected as Leader of Newport and proud to represent such an amazing city, community, and talented Labour group.

Next week, the cabinet will review plans to explore future opportunities for Newport Stadium. If approved, we will launch an Expression of Interest process, inviting partners to share ideas and interest in the stadium. It’s a major asset for the city, and we cannot stand still.

Great to visit Newport Corinthians (Corries) this week & speak with David Stokes & chairman Rhys Hussain about the club’s ambitions. In it’s 65th year & continues to grow with 32 junior teams, 6 senior sides, a veterans team and 3 girls’ teams. What an iconic Newport backdrop too.
