I believe in the transformative potential of technology. I think that many of the methods, approaches & platforms can contribute to social benefit and prosperity. Scepticism about particular business models & dislike of particular individuals should not tip over into a rejection of this potential.

A wonderful conference where contributors @aoifenolan.bsky.social Conor Gearty & Shami Chakrabarti & others discussed the power as well as vulnerabilities of human rights in providing protections at home and internationally

Virtually attending “Human Rights Under Pressure” symposium at Uni of Nottingham. @aoifenolan.bsky.social has spoken very passionately just now about how little attention we still give to poverty as a human right, as scholars and legal systems, and the urgency we need to have in changing course.

A v powerful keynote by Baroness Chakrabarti, in the “Human Rights Under Pressure” symposium. Taking her recently published book as point of departure, she presented an enlightened defence of human rights in the face of populism, nationalism, and rise of the right wing. Admired her pragmatism too

I'm greatly looking forward to attending in person the colloquium on "The 2024 Council of Europe Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law: Promises and Shortcomings", at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights tonight (17.00-18.30)
