First color test by Brazilian TV station TV Tupi in 1963 (music added) Due to time constraints, they developed an experimental color test by painting directly into the film. Practically no one got to see this test in color until 1980, when it was showcased in the documentary 'TV Ano 30'! 📺 🎨

Seeker may be gone, but he’ll never leave our hearts 🥹 I haven’t worked in clay since college, and getting back in has been a steep learning curve. (Also had to quit social media because I have no focus) But I’m so happy to have completed it and contribute to the ParkStop campaign!!

It was a dream come true to visit the Cabazon Dinosaurs! Built to attract visitors to the nearby Wheel Inn (which closed in 2013), Dinney and Mr. Rex aren’t directly on #Route66, but are quintessentially roadside California. You can even go inside them!
The frenetic descent into San Bernardino leads to the classic #Route66 accommodation known as the Wigwam Motel. 7 tepee-shaped motor courts were built in the ‘30s and ‘40s (including one in Orlando on OBT), today only 3 survive: here, on Route 66 in Holbrook, AZ, & Cave City, KY.
#Route66 between Barstow and San Bernardino is heavily trafficked, but Elmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch is a must-stop. Begun in 2000 after collecting bottles from across the desert, today hundreds of bottle trees stand tall, creating a kinetic kaleidoscope of colored glass.
Picking up just West of Amboy, we find a town that didn’t get saved along #Route66: Bagdad. Once a railroad station along the Santa Fe line, it disappeared after being bypassed by I-40, and now all that remains is a sign and a single tree.
After Amboy, we took a journey off #Route66 into nearby Twentynine Palms and Joshua Tree National Park. Stayed in the tranquil oasis known as the 29 Palms Inn.
Yesterday was spent in the 109° barrens of the Mojave, which means we’ve crossed into the final state on #Route66: California! Roy’s in Amboy (population: zero) is famous for being the ONLY thing around. It’s also EXTREMELY cool.
The final 10-ish miles before #Route66 gets subsumed by the interstate is also its most beautiful, fun, and dangerous: Sitgreaves Pass down into Oatman. This road dates to 1926 and is absolutely wild: hairpin turns, narrow roads, all half a mile above sea level. Take it slow & enjoy the ride!
A train town (many of these places were railroad stops on the Santa Fe line), Kingman has the fortune of being on #Route66 AND I-40. As such, Kingman can boast some well-maintained neon signs and a fantastic Route 66 Visitor’s Center. Also the home of Andy Devine, voice of Friar Tuck in Robin Hood!
Outside Seligman on #Route66 are some other great stops: - Hackberry General Store, originally run by Bob Waldmire, the inspiration for Fillmore in Cars - Antares Point ft. Giganticus Headicus, a green Moai 🗿 - Cool Spring, a 100-year old service station - A pop-up “rest stop”
The first town on the longest stretch of #Route66 is Seligman, AZ, population: 446. Seligman is, by almost any account, the Route 66 town. Its fortunes were made by the mother road. The day I-40 opened, bypassing Seligman, the number of cars driving through dropped from 9,000 to three. 🧵
Spent the last 2 days at the Grand Canyon and in Williams, the last town on #Route66 that was bypassed by I-40. Grand Canyon needs no introduction, but we traveled there via train, which I highly recommend. Williams has a great strip full of neon, and we stayed at a former brothel. 💃
